In 2008 I was in Uganda visiting and trying to dig into Henry's background at Buddo. While chatting, I asked Mr Wasswa David Katongole about Henry's times at The Kings College Buddo. Wasswa who is an artist himself and who went to school with Henry during that time line said. You could see the blows and pushing taking place at the studio window during break time as students wanted to take a peek at Henry painting in the art studio. Wasswa was one of those students trying to take a look at the young master at work even at that very young age. I will ask Mr Katongole the next time I see him to tell us more about that. In this photo, Henry has just won the Esso calendar painting competition that the Esso company in Uganda used to hold during the 60s. By this time, Henry was the artistic director of Uganda television.

The young Henry in his mid 20s was sent to England soon after graduating from Makerere school of fine arts ( Uganda- Kampala ) to study television production as artistic director. After 2 years in England, he returned to head that production department as the 1st artistic director in Ugandan televison history. |

I can now recall the past when l worked with my brother in Uganda when l was barely 5 years old at Nakesero. By then, Henry was the artistic director at Uganda Television. I remember painting in his art studio at his house. l recall some of the oil paintings he was working on, but l can't really make out the subject matter........ because of time. But the "Thorns paintings" stuck fast in my mind...I have painted a number of thorns series myself since then.
I have so much more to tell you about Henry........Please stand by... |

I have finally managed to network with a number of people who have helped put together the 1st link into our art history in Uganda. We can now begin to look deeper into the past and at the same time look into the future with the
generation NEXT. Thank you to all that have made it possible to this present date so far.
